In this Masterclass Dr. Manea will discuss the concept of Old Norse ritual and magic. Sorcery was the medium, not cult or poetry, that conducted the conversations with the powers which were seen as a set of mechanisms by which people tried to influence their environment and lay in the realm of ordinary communities, not official cults. In this course participants will be looking at some sagas, the weird powers they report and whether there is more than literature and cultural memory to them.
